The Manifesto

What is aliveness?

What aliveness is, and why it matters.

Life IS the point. Signed A.

Notice it. Feel it. Live it.

You already know the feeling.

We often think of aliveness as something we experience occasionally. The holiday, the trophy, the thrill. We light up and can’t stop talking about it, every time without fail. Because for a moment, we were there.

We were alive. We were electric.

But why should it be limited to grand moments when it can be a philosophy to live by?

Aliveness is the vibrant, expansive experience of being moved by life.

Perhaps it’s dancing along to your favourite song while you cook, connecting unexpectedly with a kind stranger, laughing with a friend so hard you wake up smiling about it, or sitting by a window and noticing how it all fits together: the sun on your face, the trees in the wind, the birds, the bugs. The ordinary, turned alive.

But here’s the catch. Being alive means you exist. Aliveness means feeling what it is to be human, the good and the hard: joy, euphoria, grief, love, pain, awe.

Life is imperfect, and often there’s peace in that. An experience may make you feel, teach you something, give you perspective, or point you back to who you are.

Aliveness can also be found in harder places: a good cry from a sad movie that leaves you lighter, or a pounding heart before you do something that terrifies you, with a rush that follows.

Be present, take part in your own way, and let the experience move you. That is aliveness. Then notice how it felt and choose what comes next, and it becomes a cycle.

And this matters, because aliveness is a skill that can be learned. The more aware and open you are, the more natural it can feel, even if it comes easier some days than others. And it radiates, in ourselves and in others.

But we feel its absence too.

What’s missing?

Many of us have ideas of success. Five-year plans. Savings goals. Career ladders. Most of them are built around what we will have.

But what about how we want to feel?

What makes you feel alive? Signed A.

How often do we ask: what actually makes me feel alive? And how can I welcome more of that into my life?

So many of us miss it through lack of presence, lack of priority, or not creating space for it to arrive.

Or perhaps fear or shame has us resisting the harder experiences in life.

And sometimes it isn’t a choice. Pain, illness, exhaustion, money worries or a situation you can’t change can take up most of what we have.

Living isn’t always doing. Resting, healing and hard times are part of being alive.

Outside of those ‘peak’ moments, we may live on autopilot, even though we can feel this way more often, in the smallest of ways.

A life built around feeling alive is more fulfilling than one built around having.

Because we can achieve our goals, build our dream home, and yet still be flat or overwhelmed by the same routine, same walls, same feeling of just getting by. If we treat life like a checklist, an outcome, or a destination, something will always be missing, and the work never ends.

Who is this for?

Anyone who has caught a glimpse of that feeling, even long ago, and thought: I want more of this.

Aliveness isn’t a personality type, a privilege, a level of energy, or positivity.

It doesn’t require wealth, a plane ticket, a certain kind of life, or a certain kind of body or mind. It’s more available to us than we realize, and with patience and care for ourselves, we may be able to truly experience it.

Live it.

Aliveness lives in the big adventures, and the quiet moments. It is not linear. And there’s always more.

Take part in the way you can, and be kind to your limits. Be open and curious about what brings you that feeling of aliveness.

Let how it feels guide you, then ask: is this making my life more fulfilling? Notice when fear or shame is choosing for you, or in fact stopping you from choosing.

We can’t control everything that happens in life, but we can influence how we respond.

There isn’t one fixed path. You may not always get it right, and that’s okay. Try things and choose what feels true to you.

What matters is how time feels, not how much of it you have. There’s no rush and no destination. Choose one thing, big or small, and see what happens.

What would your life look like if you made room for 5% more of what makes you feel alive?

You already know the feeling. What you do with it is up to you.

Choose aliveness.
